Watch a Snow Leopard Cub Wait for Mom

Rare footage from the heart of Kyrgyzstan's Tian Shan Mountains, a snow leopard conservation hotspot.

The curious cub, barely half a year old, seems to come out of nowhere, suddenly posing – and waiting – in front of our camera trap. The little kitten hesitates, turns… until finally, mom appears!

The video offers a rare glimpse into the secret lives of wild snow leopard mothers and their offspring.

Across the endangered cat’s range, there may be less than 4,000 snow leopards left. Kyrgyzstan’s Sarychat Ertash State Nature Reserve, in the Central Tian Shan massive, is a stronghold for the species; providing a home to an estimated 20 to 25 adult snow leopards.

This research is carried out in partnership with the Kyrgyz State Agency for Environment Protection and Forestry, and generously supported by partners including Snow Leopard Vodka, Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo and Partnership Funding by Fondation Segré, managed by Whitley Fund for Nature

  1. Please dear Universe, send the Snow Leopard Trust wealthy sponsors ! We need to have more dedicated attempts
to show these magnificent, benign, distant treasures of our suffering planet — to a public — generally — indifferent to
“exotic loners”. Thank you for your work benefitting the villagers that share the wondrous creatures’ territory ! I’m unspeakably grateful to Surenkuu Luvsan and all of you ! (Hope you name a cub after her.) Juliane
